Legal Perspective on Pressure Injuries

Learning Objectives: As a result of the participation in this activity, participants should be able to:
1. Describe the medical-legal environment surrounding pressure ulcer issues.
2. Discuss how breakdowns in recognized practices can have negative legal ramifications.
3. Improve communication and documentation to better demonstrate good patient care and serve as “pre-emptive legal medicine”.
4. Apply a multidisciplinary approach to the provision of pressure ulcer care.
5. Recognize the current medical thinking and federal requirements that pressure ulcers are a medical diagnosis.
